Two Very Different Women: Kateri and Broten

The Upside

Bl. Kateri will be canonized tomorrow, the glorious culmination of God's love for the Lily of the Mohawks in the world. Neil MacCarthy writes for the Archdiocese of Toronto blog as does Fr. Kuntz for Cathoilic Chapter House.

The Downside

Bishop Mulhull of Pembroke shows some significant leadership in blatantly saying 'no' to Laurel Broten.

Archbishop Prendergast does too, a part of which runs:

"the suggestion is that Catholic teaching on this point should be forbidden in publicly-funded Catholic schools. While people of other faiths and no faith are pro-life, the protection of the vulnerable, including those conceived in the womb is authentic Catholic doctrine and has its place in Catholic schools.

I am reminded of the words of a martyr-priest, whose feast falls in the Jesuit Ordo today but is not observed because of the Lord’s Day: they offer an apt analogy for our times:

‘In all that concerns the king, I will be slavishly obedient; if any attack his temporal power, I will shed my last drop of blood for him. But in the things of spiritual jurisdiction which a king unjustly seizes I cannot and must not obey.’ ~ St. John Ogilvie"

See my post on her too. I am a little less elegant. ;-)

Post of the Week: Od's Blog

A very interesting discussion by Steve Roney of his son's curriculum. Good analysis. Thanks, James, for pointing it out to me.

Welcome to Kevin

Kevin comes from Calgary and shares his knowledge of liturgical music at Breviary Hymns!

On the theme of the liturgy, a parent of my school, Maryvale Academy of Ottawa, pointed out this interesting post. Please, forgive: it's American.
